JTEG Webpage Design
Today’s special session concerned the JTEG webpage design. The decision was made to host the JTEG webpage on the NCMS site with the thought being that the interested community already uses this site regularly. The webpage has been initiated though not yet populated at http://jteg.ncms.org
Webpage Access. The website will have both restricted (private) access and open (public) access areas. The placing of content will be distributed according to its sensitivity as deemed by the JTEG co-chairs.
Restricted (Private) Area: Within the “Private” area, access will require username/ password login and be targeted primarily to the DoD practitioners and their supporting contractors. JTEG principles and associated contractor support will also have further access to a more restricted area for posting information to be shared internally within the JTEG.
Open (Public) Area: The open access area will expand access to the public and industry. For example, the public access area will include information concerning DoD depot maintenance technology insertion needs and emerging requirements, new technology trends, technology initiatives, events, etc.
Posting Information: Review and approval authority for content posting and user access will be documented in the JTEG Communications Plan. A new feature called the “Drop-Box” will allow members and visitors to place items in a “cloud storage area” where the information can be shared with others.
Webpage Content: The following were categories of proposed content for future posting to the website and the associated discussion by the group (note: posting of all the below content with designated access as discussed above was deemed executable by the website designer from NCMS). This is only an initial effort to discuss the possible scope of the JTEG website. It was recognized that evolutions will occur with new information proposed for posting and others deleted:
- JTEG purpose/mission, charter, meeting minutes, briefings – The JTEG Communications Plan will be added to the list and the group agreed that access to these documents will need to be discussed further since some are potentially more sensitive than the others.
- Technology initiative list (DoD, services, activities) with links – This area would include white papers, briefings, etc., with links if available. This will be the true “technology corner” of the webpage. The postings will be organized along the lines of the “12 CTI focus areas” from the JCI. The point was made by the group that this technology list would be those technologies that fall under the JTEG umbrella not a 100% exhaustive list of every technology effort being pursued by the services, etc.
- List of depot maintenance activities – The thought was to have public access here to the depot technology hyperlinks with a restricted access area that would include more in depth and detailed information on depot activity requirements, project information, POCs, etc.
- List of DoD technology venues and funding vehicles (OSD & Services) – Initially the intent would be to have “.mil” type access for service/activity details with a less restrictive access area that would describe the “how to” on submitting for funding by the various posted avenues.
- List of new and emerging requirements and possible solutions – This section will list the needs and requirements gaps (both existing and emerging) and possible solutions, both government and private. It was noted that there should be TRL consideration with the content posted in this area. A low TRL would not be a viable solution for an existing gap.
- New trends in depot maintenance technology – This area would cover new technology or trends where no needs or requirements currently exist or the TRL is too low. The group envisioned this area mainly publicizing new technologies that are being developed at DoD labs or private industry.
- Events calendar – (ex. CTMA Conference, DoD Maintenance Symposium, service/activity forums, technology expos, etc. No issues with this type of information
- JTEG applicable/related Policy and Issuances – This area would be reserved for posting links to DoD acquisition and sustainment policy, instructions, and guidance that have applicability/impacts to JTEG subject technologies (i.e. JCIDS guidance, 5000 series instructions, etc.). The comment was also made that this may be expanded to include service related policy and guidance for further reference.
- JTEG principals and contact information – This will be rolled into number one above.
- Links to other related sites – This area would include links to the OSD(MPP), NCMS, CTMA, service/activity technology sites. No issues noted with this idea.
- Search function, blog area, “frequently asked questions” areas – No decision made on any or all of these, but they are all possible to implement on the webpage.
Lastly, the “phase I” of the website project has the goal to “go live” with the initial posting of the basic JTEG information and several of the links as placeholders by 30 September 2012.
