Project Number (JTEG Assigned) | AF-10-0001 |
Project Title | Parent Material Restoration “Recast“ |
Service | Air Force |
Command | AFMC |
Implementation Depot | OCALC |
Project Lead | Grizelda Loy-Kraft, DSN 336-5652, 639 ACSG/EN |
TI Goals Supported | P-1, S-2, C-3 |
Focus Area | Environmental |
Platform General | Aircraft |
Platform Specific | |
Implemented Technology | All DoD repair and overhaul facilities; MRO&P-TWG in cooperation with PS-TWG and PEWG |
Problem Definition | Currently there is no MRO process to repair or salvage components by restoring them to their original unworn or eroded dimensional tolerances other than through welding, thermal spray, brazing, or hazardous chemical plating baths. |
Proposed Solution | Need a “Recast” process to restore dimensional tolerance to aircraft components degraded by in-service use as well as certain steps in the repair process. |
Expected Result | No reliance on material shortages due to lack of strategic alloys |
Benefits | Ability to repair/salvage components previously deemed unrepairable in-lieu of new part procurements. |
Unfunded Requirement | Yes |
