On 28 January, 2014 the Joint Technology Exchange Group (JTEG) conducted its’ monthly teleconference. This was an internal meeting with only JTEG principals and their designated representatives participating. A brief summary of the teleconference follows:
Welcome and Review
- The last JTEG meeting was the Cold Spray Repair virtual forum conducted on 7 January. Meeting minutes, slides, Q&A’s, and the attendance list have all been posted to the JTEG website at https://jteg.ncms.org/
- Greg Kilchenstein stated that the previous JTEG forums were heavily attended and he has received many positive comments from participants. He asked the Principals for input and feedback on the JTEG forums. Comments received were all positive, with particular praise for the panel formats which allowed more dialogue between panel members as well as Q&A opportunities.
- Review of Open Action Items: The following are actions from the Cold Spray forum:
- Post briefings on the JTEG Website at https://jteg.ncms.org/ . Action; NCMS (Completed)
- Send out unanswered questions to the presenters. Action: LMI (Completed)
- Send out questions and answers to all registrants. Action: LMI/NCMS (Completed)
- Send out meeting minutes to all registrants. Action: LMI/NCMS (Completed)
- Make a POC list of all registrants available and distribute. Action: NCMS (Completed)
- Post to the JTEG website the ESTCP report on the Cold Spray Technology for Aircraft Component Repair project, once the appropriate permissions are received. Action: CSAT/LMI/NCMS (Open)
- Post the Cost Model that Tim Eden briefed on the JTEG website: Action: Tim Eden/LMI/NCMS (Open)
- Develop a cold spray repair repository or body of knowledge of available information that the community can access to leverage current and future efforts and opportunities. Action: OSD/CSAT (Open)
- Develop a joint roadmap or guidebook on how to take a capability and apply it to the whole range of applications across DoD. Should include transition, qualification, specifications & standards, and process specifications. Action: OSD/CSAT (Open)
New Business:
- Posting information to the web site.
JTEG Principals were encouraged to post information on current technology efforts their Services are participating in. This includes the briefings presented at the monthly JTEG teleconferences, as well as other projects. - Identify themes for the next 6 or more monthly teleconferences.
JTEG Principals brainstormed ideas for future JTEG forums. The following were identified:- Feb: Advanced Wiring Inspection Capabilities (Wiring bundles to LRUs)
- Lead: OSD
- Mar: Model-Based Enterprise (2D tech data to 3D tech data)
- Lead: OSD/FRC-SW, Army assist
- Apr: Casting & Forging Process (including using 3D Mfg to build forms)
- Lead: NAVAIR
- May: Engine Erosion\Corrosion Coatings (Evaluation, validation, qualification)
- Lead: OSD
- June: New Technologies to Train the Workforce (i.e. virtual, gaming, etc.)
- Lead: NAVSEA
- July: Automated Test Equipment (Issues to modernize; migration)
- Lead: TBD
- Aug: Composite Inspection & Repair
- Lead: USAF & NAVAIR
- Sep: Electronic Point of Reference Repair (Workers with laptops)
- Lead: TBD
- Oct: Exoskeleton: MANTIS & Zero-G Arm
- Lead: NAVSEA
- Feb: Advanced Wiring Inspection Capabilities (Wiring bundles to LRUs)
- The Principals discussed having the JTEG charter WIPTs for laser coating removal and cold spray. The purpose of the WIPTs is to create tools which enhance the exchange of technology information within DoD. Draft charters are being developed.
Upcoming JTEG Teleconferences:
- The February 2014 JTEG teleconference/forum is scheduled for 1:00 pm EST on 25 Feb. the topic is “Advanced Wiring Inspection Capabilities”. OSD has the lead.
- The March 2014 JTEG forum is scheduled for 25 Mar. The topic is “Model-Based Enterprise”. OSD and FRC-SW have the lead, with Army assist.
Review of New Action Items:
- Send out JTEG community email list to JTEG Principals for review and additions. (Lead: LMI, Assist: JTEG Principals)
- Prepare for upcoming Technology Forums IAW above schedule (All)
